Since 1853, Wallingford has been a gracious host to many romantic weddings – each one unique and enriched by the homestead’s lovely ambiance. By choosing Wallingford as the setting for your special day, you can feel confident your wedding will be imbued with the gravitas and charm of yesteryear and the sophisticated comfort of today.
Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting prospects for any couple. With the logistical matters to take care of, it can also be one of the most daunting – particularly when balancing an already busy schedule. Rest assured, the team at Wallingford are consummate experts when it comes to planning and hosting large occasions. Jen Ormond, Executive Chef Charlotte, and Administrator Alexa employ a deft yet efficient touch when planning for and personalising your day.
Recommending as little or as much as you wish us to, we will work with you to develop and deliver on a wedding plan supported by those hidden practical details that encourage something more intangible on the day – the shared memories that come from families and friends gathering in joyous celebration.
And do take a look at our gallery for an idea of how weddings have unfolded in the past.
Wallingford is a large 150 year old homestead which maintains the elegance and fine living of yesteryear.
The wings of the homestead stretch out through beautifully kept country gardens, courtyards, ancient oak trees and lawns.
For your ceremony, choose one of our many garden locations. Smaller weddings may wish to use our local chapel St Peters. The chapel is gorgeous, with stained glass windows and Chapman and Taylor hand carved pews.
Your reception will be held in a marquee on the front lawn, which can host up to approximately 250 people.
There are 14 bedrooms and two day beds available. With day beds included, the homestead sleeps up to 34.
Bedrooms are large and have wonderful garden views. Most bedrooms open onto a lawn or verandah.
For large groups bathrooms may be shared. For small groups, private bathrooms will be designated.
Come and visit us at Wallingford, and view the garden where you can host your big day. Walk down our rose-lined garden steps, or find your place on the lawn under beautiful oak trees.
For the smaller weddings of 60 or less, we have the Wallingford chapel five hundred metres up the road.
During the warm summer days, our pool pavilion is the ideal spot for bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Swim in the solar heated pool, or relax on bean bags on the grass or pavers. Watch your favourite sports on the 65 inch plasma screen, while enjoying drinks from the fully licensed bar.
The pool pavilion will host your intimate family time during the day, and later turn into your well-lit party location.
Up to 40 can dine in elegance. It is here you will spend your breakfasts and dinners, enjoying the company of friends.
Your Executive Chef is Charlotte Robinson. Charlotte was private function chef to the United Kingdom Cabinet. She has cooked in New Zealand, Scotland, Wales and England.
We have a sample menu available for an idea of what Charlotte would deliver for your wedding day. Please do note that it is only a sample, and that we would be excited to talk to you today about personalising your menu.

In the drawing room spend your time sipping drinks and singing around the Grand Piano – made in Paris in 1890. In the “hall” (sitting room) relax on comfortable sofas while you read from the library, or enjoy canapés.
The Wallingford hall (sitting room) is a wonderfully well-lit and comfortable room for you to spend evenings in. The late architect Sir Michael Fowler described the Wallingford hall as “my favourite room of all old houses I have visited”, in his book Country Houses of New Zealand.
The magic of Wallingford is how quickly it will put you at ease. It is a sophisticated yet homely space in which everyone can find privacy if they want it, or come together to play croquet, share a wine, or laugh together by the pool.
With its modern facilities, professionally kept rooms and gardens, and vistas out onto rolling hill country, Wallingford will feel like your spiritual home while you stay here.
