ACCOMMODATION & RESTAURANT HAWKE'S BAY NEW ZEALAND

Welcome to Wallingford

Welcome to WALLINGFORD

In your private abode, you have tea and coffee with a more elaborate selection of beverages available in our ‘Hello’ room. If you’ve spied the sweet treats, help yourself, as they are there to be devoured by you. For those of you who like their hot drinks with a dash of white, be sure to check the little fridge under the Hello Room tea & coffee station as it has a selection of dairy and non-dairy milks. Do help yourself. The bar is open from 3pm with last drinks at 10.30pm. If you would like a mini bar in your room, let Jeanette know, as we can abracadabra this in a jiffy.

Our wish for you - that your sojourn with us is a retreat from the chronic busyness of your everyday, really, truly, madly a tools down moment but if you need to connect online, we get it. Use the Wallingford Guest account, password is porangahau
(all lower case).

Your pillows are feather down but, should this not suit, we have hypoallergenic pillows in your wardrobe. For fans of the electric blanket, sing out as we have these on hand. The pool is heated to 27 degrees Celsius. If you are in a swimming state of mind, head over in your togs & robe and little else as there are pool towels, a shower and a toilet at the pavilion.

Built in 1853 and once touted as the largest single-story homestead in the Southern Hemisphere, Wallingford is a house that collects stories, has layers of history, and an architecture that speaks to the palatial roominess and community of yesteryear; do go exploring and for those of you who want to while away a quiet moment reading or ‘goggle eyeing’ events on SkyTv, we do have a light filled enclave we refer to as the ‘Muse’ room.

Along with its bedfellow, an 845-hectare Angus Stud Station, the Wallingford house reclines in a place of deep country. In keeping with a property that came to fruition a century or two ago, there are a few quirks that tend, now-a-days, to be considered hazards so do have your wits about when you go a roaming. It is a working farm so close any opened gate behind you, know that the water raining down on you is from the sky, that the roaring fire is open and that the garden paths may be mossy. If you have the sniffles and suspect you are coming down with the dreaded COVID, do email us at info@wallingford.co.nz . We’ll pop a RAT test under your door and should the result be positive, we will hatch a plan together that takes into account everyone’s well-being.

For those who want to wander a little further afield, wineries abound as do mountain bike treks and local beaches with Porangahau, named for is windy, soul-searching ways, being the closest. Down the picturesque Wimbledon Road, you’ll find the longest place name in the world and of course, if you want to visit the art deco capital of
New Zealand, Napier is just a skip away.

Chris’ energy is tied up ‘what if-ing’ in the kitchen, what if I made pasta without gluten, what if I sous- vide a duck egg for an hour at 59.5 degrees Celsius? We gather at 6.30 pm in the main sitting room for a beverage, sitting down for the evening meal at 7pm. Before you choof off to bed, do let us know when you would like breakfast. We recommend between 8.30 and 9.30 am but are happy to work in with your schedule.

We hope to spoil you with genuine caring so this time with us at Wallingford becomes a memory that is golden. Service is our calling, we are believers, so please, if there is a something you need, let us know how we can make your stay with us all kinds of wonderful.
